1. What is CovScan Cyprus?

CovScan Cyprus is an application for smart devices (mobile phones, tablets). The purpose of the application is to verify electronically the validity of the EU Digital COVID Certificate, according to the national directives in force.

2. How can I download the application?

CovScan Cyprus is immediately available for android devices and can be downloaded from Google Play. The application operates with versions of Android 8.1+. The application will be available for iOS (versions of iOS 12.1+) at a later stage.

3. What are the necessary steps to launch the CovScan Cyprus application on Android smart devices?

To use the application follow the following steps:

  1. Before activating the CovScan Cyprus application make sure that your smart device is connected to the internet;
  2. Launch the application;
  3. When you launch the application for the first time the massage «Downloading Rules». will appear on your screen. This will take a few seconds;
  4. Both when using the application for the first time, and on a daily basis, please make sure that the Keys (Trusted Public Keys) are updated before you start scanning the certificates. Select the icon on the top right part of the screen (icon “?”) to access the settings of the application. Click and activate the update of the control information (select Trusted Public keys/Business Rules, icon “Reload”). This will take a few seconds.
  5. Select the category of the space/premise;
  6. Start scanning.

Please note: The updated National Control Rules and the Trusted Public Keys are a prerequisite for the smooth operation of the CovScan Cyprus application and for obtaining reliable control indications/results.

4. How to use the CovScan Cyprus application on Android smart devices?

The verification of the EUDCC using the CovScan Cyprus application is carried out by scanning the QR code of the certificate (printed or electronic format). The user selects the space/premise at the lower part of the screen for which the verification is carried out. Depending on the measures in force for the specific space/premise, the CovScan application shows the following results:

  • Green: The certificate is “Valid” and complies with the conditions of the Decree for the specific space/premise;
  • Red: The certificate is “Invalid” and means that the certificate is not authentic, expired or does not comply with the access conditions applying to the specific place for which the control is carried out. The “Invalid” result corresponds also to the cases where the recovery and vaccination certificates are revoked because their holders have been tested positive to Covid-19 for as long as they remain in self-confinement/mandatory quarantine.

5. What applies for safepass purposes to those who have obtained their EUDCC and have subsequently tested positive?

The EU Digital COVID Certificate of those who have been tested positive to Covid-19 shall be temporarily revoked for as long as they remain in self-confinement/mandatory quarantine and when the certificate is verified by the CovScan Cyprus application the result will be Red: “Invalid”.

It is noted that the aforementioned cases will not be able to issue a new EUDCC before their release.

6. Which categories of citizens are exempted from the mandatory control by the CovScan Cyprus application?

  1. People aged 65 years and above;
  2. Minors up to 13 years of age;
  3. Turkish Cypriot citizens vaccinated in areas of the Republic of Cyprus, where the Government does not exercise effective control;
  4. People who have been vaccinated in countries other than those of the European Union, the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) or Switzerland; and
  5. People who may not be vaccinated due to a medical problem, upon presentation of the medical certificate issued by the Ministry of Health.

Even though the above categories are exempted from the control through the CovScan Cyprus application, they are obliged to present a vaccination, recovery or laboratory testing certificate in printed or electronic format.

7. What are the national control rules?

The CovScan Cyprus application gives a Valid or Invalid result according to the national control rules and the current measures in force (https://wiki.eudcc.gov.cy/MeasuresSummaryTableEL.pdf)

8. What are the possible causes for erroneous indications from the CovScan Cyprus application?

The updated National Control Rules and Keys (Trusted Public Keys) are a prerequisite for the smooth operation of the CovScan Cyprus application and for obtaining reliable control indications/results. The date and time of the latest update are indicated at in Settings, under Reload.

If NO date is stated (or if the date is not today’s date) check your internet connection and try again.

9. How to get assistance when using the CovScan Cyprus application for problems that are not linked to the above cases?

In case of a problem, you can contact the COVID-19 Call Centre by e-mail (info@eudcc.gov.cy) or by calling 1474 for local numbers or +357 22285757 for foreign numbers or calls from abroad.

To facilitate the problem evaluation procedure, you are kindly requested to provide the following information to the Call Centre:

  • Nature of the problem;
  • Device information, i.e. manufacturer and model;
  • Android version – found in the Settings of the device;
  • CovScan Cyprus application version – found in the Settings of the application on the top right part of the screen.

10. How is the CovScan Cyprus application automatically updated?

The “Auto-update apps” option must be activated on Android devices from the “Play store” application.

11. How to issue the EU Digital COVID Certificate?

The User Guide can be found on EUDCC Portal , and it explains in detail how to issue the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

12. What does the EU Covid Digital Certificate look like and what are its main features?

The EU Digital COVID Certificate can be issued and presented in a digital or/and paper format. It contains a QR code with a digital stamp that ensures its authenticity and will be verified by scanning the code with the CovScan Cyprus application. It contains information both in Greek and English language and it is issued free of charge.
